Media Architecture is a broad term that encompasses the integration of sensors and screens, sonic, visual, and tactile interfaces, materials, and displays, and data capture and display in the built environment. Media Architecture includes, but is not limited to, urban screens, media facades, public projection, augmented reality, interactive multimedia installations, digital signage and wayfinding, and the physical, social, political, and technical systems and infrastructure that support them. Media Architecture, in its development, integration, management, and use, can support corporate advertisements, data extraction, and civic spectacle. Media Architecture can also serve as a means to foster civic engagement and empowerment, develop appreciation and capacity in art and design sectors, and shape collective identity by directly addressing issues of equity, diversity, and inclusion in both content and form.
